Family protection
Family protection and private close protection
For families who need security during a period of heightened attention, without it taking over their daily lives. Calmly planned, agreed with everyone involved and carried out as unobtrusively as possible.

At a glance
Family protection in brief
- What is family protection?
- Close protection for several members of a family: parents, children, relatives. It is built around everyday family life, with its journeys, appointments and habits, not the other way round.
- When does it make sense?
- When a family member is in the public eye or exposed through their work, after a threat or an incident, during a separation that could lead to conflict or when travelling to unfamiliar surroundings.
- What does it include?
- Depending on the situation: an assessment of family life, an escort on particular journeys, procedures for the home and for visitors, protection at celebrations and on trips, and clear arrangements for emergencies.
- Will the children notice anything?
- As little as possible. Escort and procedures are designed so that children can carry on with their everyday lives. How much they should know is for the parents to decide.
- What does it cost?
- We bill close protection at a day rate; if it is only needed for a few hours, we charge a minimum of six hours. The total depends on who is accompanied, when and for how long. Targeted measures for particular journeys or appointments are often enough. After the confidential consultation you receive a quote.
- Who is your contact?
- Marc Derlich, owner of DERLO and a certified security and protection specialist. He plans the protection himself, is personally present on most assignments and remains the family's dedicated contact.
Approach
Calm, not high alert.
Families who come to us usually have one thing in common: they want as little as possible to change. The children should keep going to school, to sport and to see their friends, and home should remain a refuge.
That is why family protection begins with listening. Only once it is clear what daily life looks like and where it is vulnerable do we draw up a protection plan. Often it is a few well-chosen measures that make the difference.
- Protection that adapts to family life
- Coordination with both parents and, where necessary, with the school or childcare provider
- Clear agreements on who knows what and when
- Confidentiality towards third parties
Areas of life
Where family protection comes in
Children and the school run
Protection for children in everyday life: journeys to school, nursery, sport and friends, without the children feeling watched.
For example
- Drop-off and pick-up
- Leisure time and sports clubs
- Arrangements with the school or childcare provider
Home and neighbourhood
Who comes into the house, who knows when you are away, which routes are always the same? For the house and grounds, there is also property security for private residences.
For example
- Visitors and deliveries
- Procedures while you are away
- What to do if something seems unusual
Household staff and service providers
People with access to the family are included in the procedures, not bypassed.
For example
- Nanny, housekeeper, driver
- Tradespeople and service providers
- Clear responsibilities
Family celebrations and events
Celebrations and public occasions where the family is seen together.
For example
- Weddings and birthdays
- School events
- Public engagements
Travel and holidays
Arrival, accommodation and getting around in surroundings the family does not know.
For example
- Airport and transfers
- Holiday home and hotel
- Local excursions
Exceptional circumstances
Situations in which circumstances change for a while.
For example
- A separation with potential for conflict
- Sudden public attention
- Threats against family members
Our principle
Children should be allowed to be children. Security works in the background.
Stalking and threats
When worry turns into a real threat.
Stalking, threats or a former partner who does not respect boundaries: in situations like these, everyday life often changes overnight. Many of those affected feel alone with their fear, especially when nothing has happened yet.
The first step is to contact the police. Close protection complements their work where an escort is needed in everyday life: on routes others know you take, to appointments or in the period after a separation. It starts with a confidential consultation to assess the situation objectively.
- Confidential assessment of the situation
- Escort on routes and to appointments that others know about
- Escort to court hearings and appointments with authorities
- Arrangements for the home, the workplace and your wider surroundings

How it works
Carefully planned, step by step
Family protection is developed together and adjusted regularly as the situation changes.
Confidential consultation
With Marc Derlich himself: what has happened, what worries you and what should stay the same?
Assessing daily life
Routes, appointments, habits and the people around the family.
Protection plan
Targeted measures for the moments that really matter, rather than a round-the-clock escort.
Coordination
With both parents and, where it makes sense, with household staff, the school or childcare provider.
Escort
Discreet, calm and, wherever possible, always with the same people, so that trust can grow.
Adjustment
Regular feedback; measures are scaled back as soon as the situation allows.

Accountability
One dedicated contact for the whole family.
With families in particular, trust is what counts. Marc Derlich conducts the initial consultation, plans the protection, is personally present on most assignments and remains the contact everyone knows. If more close protection officers are needed, he selects them from his network and briefs them personally. His work with families so far includes assignments in Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart.

Frequently asked questions about family protection
How much does family protection cost?
As with all close protection, we bill family protection at a day rate; if it is only needed for a few hours, we charge a minimum of six hours. The total depends on who is accompanied, at what times and over what period. Targeted measures for particular journeys or appointments are often enough. After the confidential consultation you receive a specific quote.
Does the family need an escort around the clock?
In most cases, no. Family protection focuses on the moments and journeys where the risk is genuinely higher. How much escort is needed depends on the assessment made in the consultation.
Can DERLO help with stalking?
Yes. After a confidential assessment, an escort on particular journeys, to appointments or in the period after a separation can make sense. If you are in immediate danger, always call the police emergency number 110 first; close protection does not replace the police but complements them.
Can you protect just the children?
Yes. The escort can be limited to the children's school run, leisure time or particular appointments, agreed with both parents and, where it makes sense, with the school or childcare provider.
How are household staff involved?
A nanny, housekeeper or driver often has the closest contact with the family. They are included in procedures and arrangements, so that everyone knows what to do in everyday life and in an emergency.
Does DERLO also accompany families when they travel?
Yes, in Germany and abroad, from arrival and transfers to local excursions. More on international travel protection.
How confidential is my enquiry?
Completely. Everything you tell us about your family and your situation is treated in confidence and not passed on to third parties.
What should I do if there is an acute threat?
If you are in immediate danger, please call the police emergency number 110 straight away. After that, private close protection can help make everyday life safe again, for example with an escort on particular journeys.
