Event security Cologne

Event security in Cologne – security for events and functions

For organisers, companies, associations and venues in Cologne and the Rhineland: entry control, security staff across the venue, protection for artists and guests, and a security concept that fits the event. Planned and overseen by Marc Derlich.

Close protection at an evening event: a close protection officer in a dark suit points the way with an outstretched arm, a woman in a black dress beside him and two more officers behind them.

At a glance

Event security in brief

Clear procedures, robust structures and an experienced team – so that your event runs smoothly, safely and professionally.

What is event security?
Event security (also called event protection or security services for events) makes sure an event runs safely and in good order. That means controlled entry, a clear view of the whole venue, unobstructed routes, protected areas and a plan for when something does not go to plan.
Who is it for?
For organisers, agencies, companies, clubs and associations, carnival societies, venues and private hosts, from corporate events to large-scale events. More on security for event organisers and agencies.
What does it include?
Depending on the occasion: entry and access control, security staff across the venue, securing the stage, backstage and VIP areas, crowd management, de-escalation, close protection for artists or speakers and a security concept.
How does an enquiry work?
You tell us the date, location, type of event and expected number of guests. We then discuss the schedule, the areas and anything special about the event. After that, you receive a specific quote.
What does it cost?
That depends on the duration, the number of security personnel, their tasks, the times of day and the preparation involved. There are no flat rates; instead, you receive a quote for your event.
Who is responsible?
Marc Derlich, owner of DERLO Consulting & Protection, plans the assignment and is your contact. Additional security personnel join on a project basis from a network of experienced security professionals. DERLO holds a licence for security services under section 34a of the German Trade Regulation Act (§ 34a GewO).
Where?
DERLO is based in Frechen near Cologne. Our focus is Cologne, the Rhein-Erft district, Düsseldorf and Bonn. Events throughout North Rhine-Westphalia and elsewhere in Germany are possible by arrangement.

Services

What event security includes

What an event needs depends on the venue, the audience and the schedule.

  • 01

    Entry and access control

Ticket and guest list checks, bag checks as specified by the organiser, and an entrance that stays calm even at peak times.

  • 02

    Security staff and presence

A visible, friendly presence across the venue, at exits and pinch points; approachable for guests, alert to changes.

  • 03

    Stage, backstage and VIP areas

Access for authorised people only: artist areas, dressing rooms, lounges and technical equipment stay protected.

  • 04

    Crowd management

Routes, waiting areas and exits are planned so that crowds do not back up – at entry, during breaks and at the end.

  • 05

    De-escalation

Spotting conflicts early and resolving them calmly before they disrupt the event. Enforcing the rules where necessary, with a sense of proportion.

  • 06

Protection for artists, speakers and guests

Escorts on the routes between vehicle, backstage and stage. More on artist and VIP protection.

  • 07

    On-site coordination

With the organiser, the venue, the technical crew and, where applicable, the police, fire service and medical services. One contact for all security matters.

  • 08

    Security concept

Planning entry, areas, routes and procedures for your event. More on security concepts for events.

Planning

Security is planned before the doors open.

A calm event day is the result of good preparation. That is why every assignment starts with one question: what makes this event special? It may be the audience, the venue, the schedule or a high-profile guest.

The answers determine the tasks, the positions and the number of security personnel. Guests should feel safe without noticing the concept behind it.

  • Type of event and make-up of the audience
  • Expected number of guests and peak times
  • Venue, areas, entrances and exits
  • Escape and emergency routes, plus permit conditions
  • High-profile guests, artists and special protection needs

Our approach

Let your guests celebrate. We take care of the rest.

Good event security is friendly, attentive and clear – and it never takes centre stage.

How it works

From enquiry to teardown

  1. Enquiry

Date, location, type of event and expected number of guests.

  2. Site assessment

Areas, routes, pinch points and special features, on site or from the plans.

  3. Concept and staffing

Tasks, positions and number of security personnel; a quote covering all services.

  4. Briefing

Coordination with the organiser, the venue and other service providers; briefing for all security personnel.

  5. The event

One contact for the whole day: Marc Derlich coordinates the assignment and is personally present at most events.

  6. Follow-up

Brief feedback and pointers for the next event.

Security staff & close protection

Security staff secure the venue. Close protection secures the person.

Many events need both. The tasks complement each other, but they are not the same.

01

Security staff

Looks after guests, areas and procedures across the whole event.

  • Entry and access control
  • Presence across the venue
  • Crowd management and exits
  • Approachable for all guests

02

Close protection

Focuses on individual people, their routes and sensitive moments.

  • Routes between vehicle, backstage and stage
  • Meet & greets and photo opportunities
  • Arrival and departure
  • Discreetly close to the principal

DERLO can coordinate both as a single provider or work alongside your existing security service. More on close protection in Cologne.

Frequently asked questions about event security

How much does event security cost?

The price depends on the duration, the times of day, the number of security personnel, their tasks and the effort involved in planning and coordination. Flat rates would be unprofessional, because every event is different. After our conversation, you receive a specific quote.

How many security staff does my event need?

That depends on the number of guests, the size of the area, the number of entrances and exits, the audience, the schedule and the permit conditions. A reliable figure is only possible once we have looked at the venue and the schedule; it is part of the quote.

Do I need a security concept?

For larger events and events in public spaces, the relevant authorities often require a security concept: a written plan for the safety and security of the event. Even without such a requirement, it helps to clarify entry, routes and responsibilities in advance. More on security concepts for events.

How early should I enquire?

As early as possible, especially during the carnival season and the Christmas party season. Short-notice enquiries are possible; whether they can be accommodated depends on the scope and on availability.

Does DERLO work with our existing security service?

Yes. For example, DERLO can provide close protection for artists or guests of honour while your security service handles entry and the venue floor. Alternatively, DERLO can coordinate both tasks as a single provider.

Can artists or speakers be given additional protection?

Yes. Close protection accompanies individual people on their routes between vehicle, backstage and stage, and at photo opportunities or meet & greets. More on artist and VIP protection.

Does DERLO also cover private celebrations?

Yes, for example weddings, birthdays or celebrations with well-known guests. Here, the focus is usually on discreet entry and on letting the hosts enjoy their event undisturbed.

Is DERLO licensed to provide event security?

DERLO Consulting & Protection holds a licence for security services under section 34a of the German Trade Regulation Act (Gewerbeordnung). Marc Derlich is a certified security and protection specialist (Fachkraft für Schutz und Sicherheit).
