Cities and past assignments

Where we have worked in Germany

Every assignment is planned in Frechen near Cologne; DERLO has no offices in other cities. Clients and occasions stay confidential, so the list names the kind of work, not who booked it.

  • Cologne and Bonn

Our home region: short distances to hotels, city centres and Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN).

  • Düsseldorf

We work here as regularly as in Cologne, and assignments have included escorting Arab delegations. More on executive protection in Düsseldorf.

  • Frankfurt am Main

Business meetings, court hearings, long-term assignments for clients from the USA based at a Frankfurt hotel, international artists and major sporting events. Marc Derlich lived in Frankfurt for seven years.

  • Berlin

Assignments in political circles, at conferences, with artists and at major sporting events.

  • Munich

Major sporting events, large trade fairs, families and executives from the defence industry.

  • Hamburg and Stuttgart

In both cities, families and international delegations.

Arrival

Arrival planned before you land

Most visits begin at an airport. Meeting point, luggage, vehicle and the route to the hotel are fixed from the flight details before landing; if the landing time changes, the pick-up moves with it.

Private and business aircraft are met wherever the airport handles them, in Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart at the General Aviation Terminal.

  • Düsseldorf (DUS): about 7 km north of the city centre, Terminals A, B and C
  • Cologne Bonn (CGN): a short drive from our base in Frechen
  • Frankfurt (FRA): about 12 km south-west of the centre, Terminals 1 and 3 and the General Aviation Terminal
  • Munich (MUC): about 28 km north-east of the city, Terminals 1 and 2 and the General Aviation Terminal
  • Berlin (BER): in Schönefeld on the southern city boundary, about 27 km by road from the Brandenburg Gate
  • Hamburg (HAM): in Fuhlsbüttel, a good 8 km north of the city centre
  • Stuttgart (STR): on the Filder plateau, a good 10 km south of the centre as the crow flies, right next to the trade fair grounds

Lead time

When a city fills up, plan earlier

During large trade fairs, hotels are booked far in advance and traffic around the grounds backs up. DERLO then fixes pick-up points and routes earlier, and it pays to enquire early.

At major sporting events, the whole crowd arrives and leaves at the same time. Where the vehicle stops, the route to the seat and the moment to head back are settled beforehand; Marc Derlich has worked at such events in Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich.

Where the press or the opposing party may be waiting outside a court, arrival, entrance and departure are planned in advance; inside the building, the court's rules apply. Marc Derlich has escorted clients to court hearings in Frankfurt.

Typical dates when hotels and roads fill up early:

  • Düsseldorf: boot in January, ProWein in March, MEDICA in November
  • Frankfurt am Main: the Book Fair in October
  • Munich: EXPO REAL in early October, IAA Mobility every two years in September, bauma every three years and the Oktoberfest on the Theresienwiese
  • Berlin: ITB, IFA, Grüne Woche and InnoTrans at Messe Berlin by the Funkturm, the Berlinale in February
  • Hamburg: the Reeperbahn Festival in September
  • Stuttgart: the Cannstatter Volksfest on the Wasen, 17 days from late September to mid-October

Working with agencies

Part of your plan, not a second one.

International visits involve many parties: assistants, travel agencies, hotels, drivers and hosts. Protection works best when it fits into their arrangements instead of creating new ones.

That is why times, routes and responsibilities are agreed early. On the day, Marc Derlich remains your contact: he knows the plan and is reachable around the clock.

  • One contact for all security questions
  • Discretion about plans, places and times
  • Enquiries and coordination with Marc Derlich in English, German or Persian (Farsi)

Executive protection FAQ

Do you cover cities other than Cologne?

Yes. Besides Cologne and Düsseldorf, Marc Derlich has worked in Frankfurt am Main, Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Stuttgart. Every assignment is planned from Frechen near Cologne, including travel and, where needed, additional close protection officers from his network.

Which airports do you cover?

DERLO meets arrivals at Düsseldorf (DUS) and Cologne Bonn (CGN) and, for assignments elsewhere in Germany, at Frankfurt (FRA), Munich (MUC), Berlin (BER), Hamburg (HAM) or Stuttgart (STR), including private and business flights wherever the airport handles them.

Do you also protect visitors from Dubai and the UAE?

Yes. Families, business leaders and delegations from the UAE and the other Gulf states are escorted for as long as they are in Germany, from arrival to departure; Marc Derlich has already escorted Arab delegations in Düsseldorf. DERLO has no office or staff of its own in the UAE. More on executive protection for guests from Dubai and the UAE.

Can you provide a security driver?

Yes. Transfers between airport, hotel, meetings and venues can be part of the assignment, with planned routes and coordinated arrival times.

How is executive protection charged?

DERLO bills close protection at a day rate; if it is only needed for a few hours, a minimum of six hours is charged. The total depends on duration, number of close protection officers, vehicles and travel from Frechen near Cologne. After the initial consultation, you receive a fixed quote with every item listed.

Can you work alongside our own security team?

Yes. Roles, vehicle order and meeting points are agreed with your team before arrival, so everyone works from one plan. What travelling security staff may do in Germany depends on German law; DERLO explains this beforehand.

How far in advance should we enquire?

As early as possible, so that hotels, transfers and appointments can be included in the planning. Short-notice enquiries are possible depending on scope and availability.

Can the escort travel on with us to other European countries?

That is decided case by case. If your trip continues from Germany to other European countries, DERLO checks in advance whether and how the escort can travel with you.

Does private protection replace police protection for official visits?

No. Protection for official state guests is ordered by the authorities and carried out by the police; it cannot be booked. DERLO escorts private and business visits.

Is DERLO licensed in Germany?

Yes. DERLO Consulting & Protection holds a licence for security services under section 34a of the German Trade Regulation Act (§ 34a GewO), which is valid throughout Germany.
